Genfest: The History
Since the very beginning, us youth have always been very much part of the Focolare Movement, contributing to the building up of its aim to form the human family in fraternity.
Already in 1967 Chiara Lubich founded the Gen Movement – new generation of the Focolare Movement - with the motto “Youth of the world unite!” and in a very short time this spread all over the world. Chiara opens up the gaze of the Gen over the youth of the world and a few years later, in 1985, as an irradiation of the Gen Movement, “Youth for a United World” is born.
Over the years the Genfest pronounces the story of the Gen and of the “Youth for a united world”.
1985 – The 1985 Genfest is an important moment. It marks the baptism of the Movement “Youth for a United World”
1995 – We manage a world-wide diffusion of the event through satellite link-ups and internet, and inaugurate the first United World Week: days in which we focus on the most various initiatives, to make a mark on the public opinion of each nation
